two total lunar eclipses
(who had been visible on Earth before in two different times)
are talking:

I am so proud of myself…
I covered so much on Earth,
from the last important human bastion
in the southern hemisphere,
New Zealand...

So you have the right to tell a particular story
about yourself.
TLE of 2011.06.15 :
I’ve chosen to tell about the special case of Romania,
a country in the south-east of Europe,
not only because it has so enthusiastic astro-photo-poets,
but also because in 2011.06.12 I read in Ziarul Stiintelor (Science Newspaper)
the following astropoetic article
(which was taken over by the web site of the Romanian Rugby Federation)
by a crazy man,
Andrei Dorian Gheorghe:
RUGBY UNDER A LUNAR ECLIPSE
Wednesday 2011.06.15.
A new total lunar eclipse will be visible from Romania,
after 3 years and almost 4 months.
The “varkolaks” will begin to bite the natural satellite (partiality phase) from 21:22
and the totality will be between 22:22 and 00:02
after the local time
(conquering 2 minutes from 2011.06.16).
Certainly, some of the sky lovers will go to places without light pollution
to make performing photographs.
But most of the people will watch the phenomenon from their localities.
And those who want to see an extraordinary combination will go
to the second stage of the International Rugby Board Nations Cup 2011 in Bucharest.
Thus, they will be the spectators of international rugby matches on Earth
and the match between the Moon and Terra’s shadow cone in the sky.
However, for them, the Moon’s shape will be not spherical, but oval.

Yes, the author is an impertinent.
How could a man imagine that my chief, the Moon,
can have an oval shape?
And more, even the editor of the Science Newspaper,
Catalin Mosoia,
added after the article a general invitation:
Come to the National Rugby Stadium!
So, before becoming visible in the sky,
I also was over there in the evening of 2011.06.15
to see that miraculous oval ball
in the most important match of the competition.

Rugby…
a superb game invented
almost two centuries ago
by a boy,
William Web Ellis,
in an English college.
Soon after, its oval ball
began to fascinate many people,
rivalling in their minds
with the celestial spheres.
Now I’m watching a superb rugby match
in Romania’s Capital,
hoping that the total lunar eclipse that will come soon
will not be overawed by this show
and will not hide after clouds…
since I can see
that the Sun is already ashamed,
setting into a tree.

So I truly decided to call clouds and rain,
but just for punishing Andrei for his impudence.
In exchange,
people from many other places in Romania could admire me…

During the maximum of the phenomenon
I estimated the eclipse as having 1
on the Danjon scale,
and I saw clearly the structure of the Earth’s shadow,
its middle zone being almost centred on the lunar disk.
Due to the absence of artificial light,
the Milky Way was easily visible
right in the zone of the eclipsed Moon!
Even after the U3 moment
the show continued to be great
because the Moon had the aspect of the section of an eye,
the ambient light began to grow
and the night began to become a white night,
the Milky Way remaining still visible for a while.

MATHEMATICAL ECLIPSE

Many years ago
a mathematical calculus predicted
this total lunar eclipse.
Thinking of its exact phases
I fell asleep
and my dream put my head on the Moon,
my body on Terra
and my feet on the Sun.
Thus I created a bed
and an unexpected, non-mathematical living.
Then the bed broke,
the dream stopped,
and I became mathematical again.

After 2 hours of worships
only 5 minutes of totality,
but enough to watch the beauty
and to take a few pictures.
Anyway, I thank the sky
for those magnificent moments.
Obviously, after the eclipse
the sky became clear.
Maybe it would have been better
if I would have begun the worships
much earlier…

Since close to Bucharest
the meeting point for over 20 amateur astronomers
was cloudy,
I sped by car to the east on a highway,
trying to outrun the front of clouds
and to avoid the Police.
In the end all was OK.
I saw an impressive Moon,
like a small / big UFO
with black thoughts to Romania’s Capital.

I vainly hoped that an oval ball made by people
can approach a heavenly spherical body
in a state of grace
(eclipsed by Terra’s shadow).
Because of the clouds,
there was no beam
to connect them, but at least all was
a beautiful dream.
