GAM 2012:
“SUN DAY”
(2012.04.01)
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

The SunDay reminds
that each day is a Sun Day.
Believe me, each day…

M81, M82 AND INTEGRATED FLUX NEBULA
(a DSO astrophotography joint project launched during GAM 2012)
-astro-photo-poem by Emil Pera
and Emil Kolbert (Austria, born in Romania)-

It was our hardest project.
The Flux Nebula is a diffuse cloud of giant dimensions in our galaxy,
which is lit not by only one star (such as most of the nebulae),
but by the light of all the stars from the Milky Way.
Weeks of work, many lost nights
and some sweet words addressed to Lady Moon…

“LUNAR WEEK”
(1-7 April, at Dumitrana, next to Bucharest)-
-astro-photo-poem by Maximilian Teodorescu-

Firstly,
this is my new instrument under moonlight :

Then…

Copernicus :

Plato :

Clavius :

Gassendi and Letronne on Terminator :

And finally,
because the Moon lit all the sky
with her hunchbacked phase,
I gave her a lot of attention!

We began with a musical story
in which we built astronomical instruments,
started to hunt stars,
travelled through the Universe,
and finally we slowly came back to Earth,
through the atmosphere…

VENUS-PLEIADES CONJUNCTION
(2012.04.03)
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

It was one of the most beautiful things
I saw in my life.
The goddess of beauty
among symbols of beauty.

It was just like Venus became
the brightest Pleiade among the Pleiades,
or just like all the Pleiades became
goddesses of beauty.

Suddenly a corona
surrounded all that sublime group
that seemed to become
a Royal Star.

And I remembered the Star of Kings
from before the Nativity.
This time all seemed to be a Star of Queens
before the Easter.

It is obvious,
from time to time,
the sky shows us,
even without words,
new definitions of beauty.

FOR GAM 2012 IN CLUJ-NAPOCA -
THE CIRCLE OF STARS
(Astronomy, Destiny, Immortality)
-by Dan Uza (Cluj-Napoca)-

My book,
appeared on the occasion of Global Astronomy Month 2012,
wants to be an echo of the fascination of the starry sky,
which set a long time ago.
My convincement is that
astronomy must be open-mindedly
lived and popularized …

HISTORY
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

Goodbye, Cronus.
The ringed planet will remain the same.
Good evening, Saturn.

UNDER THE SIGN OF STAR PEACE

For when the human chain of
30 Nights of Star Peace
arrived in Romania,
we told about this project
at “Noi si Cerul - Us and the Sky” on Columna TV in Targoviste,
and I made a special artwork…
With all best wishes,
Valentin Grigore
(AWB coordinator for Romania, Europe)

StarPeace artwork by Valentin Grigore

There are two, possibly three, groups with the largest one planned
for Sunday, April 22nd
with Canada, US, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Columbia and Brazil.
However Chile, the states of Ohio, Chicago, and New York
along with Canada, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago
will be on another night.
This year, this region is excited and working hard to make sure
we will say our “piece” about StarPeace.
It will be the first time we will be connecting with
North, Central, South America and the Caribbean!
Have a great time everyone,
Peggy Walker
(AWB national coordinator for USA )

GATE TO THE LYRID NIGHT

THE LYRIDS
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

Orpheus plays so ardently
his lyre
that provokes new sparkles
to look for Eurydice…

22 APRIL 2012
-astro-photo-poem by Maximilian Teodorescu-

On a beautiful Sunday in April,
I made solar observations for tens of minutes.
Obviously, I also attached my camera.

Five visible groups contained an…
impressive number
of spots and pores,
proving that the solar maximum is close.

But I await giant groups of sunspots
for even more…
expressive photographs.

WHEN THE MOON WAS 35 HOURS OF AGE
-astro-photo-poem by Dan Uza-

My destiny decided:
I had to stay in a Bucharestian hotel
without warm water
but with a window happily orientated to the west.
From the 7th floor I could watch
over the buildings from around,
and I remarked the highest hotel in the city,
Intercontinental.

But the real panorama was
beyond the thick mist of the horizon:
the first apparition of the lunar sickle
after the astronomical moment of the New Moon.

Selene was accompanied by a small “star”:
the planet Jupiter.

22 APRIL 2012:
MOON-JUPITER CONJUNCTION AT THE DUMITRANA FOREST
-astro-photo-poem by Maximilian Teodorescu-

One day after the Full Moon,
our satellite wonderfully set,
accompanied by the Greatest Majesty
of the Solar System:
Jupiter!

SELENE AND VENUS
-by Dominic Diamant-

From the distance,
in a spring night,
Venus conflicts with Selene,
no one understanding the other.

Mischievous,
Venus provokes Selene:

“You will never be
bright like me
with your opaque shine.
And I am so sad for you!”

Calm, but adamant,
Selene replies:

“In my dreams,
Endymion is more vivacious
than any rebellious planet.
So maybe I’m not too smart,
but you, vain being,
will never touch my clean heart.”

HUMAN EQUALITY
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

“Who said that
you have to respect and love
people with disabilities
by teaching them astronomy?”

“Even the stars”
was the astronomer’s answer.

ON THE OLT RIVER
(dramatic astropoetry ode in the honour of the Romanian team
trained for the International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics
at Calimanesti-Cozia)
-by Tit Tihon-

Chronicler I:

The infinite Universe,
reborn through small planets,
throws to the Olt River, to the Cozia Royal Monastery,
a sublime research,
combining the shadow of old glorious Romanian rulers
with current disciples of Ptolemy
into rainbows as national constellations.
The black sky, beyond the bridge,
lowers imaginary lights among the telescopes
with aspirations of young apprentices.
Polaris, Orion, Hercules
appear in those nights for the competitors,
followers of Galileo
who want to decipher the southern hemisphere
to pyramids in Amazonia,
or the eastern hemisphere
on the way of Marco Polo.
And their urge to know
what is new beyond the horizon
tries to comprehend immensity.
They learn to compete with the galaxy of life,
which guards their promotion.

Chronicler II:

Galactic children try to promote
on stellar maps.
Lost through theorems,
tested in keplerians,
they want to re-think planetariums,
to open other trajectories for new comets,
to obtain astral passports,
and finally to win new terrestrial gold medals.
Then, thinking to renew illusory theories,
they will dream about trials of novae.

Chronicler III:

The god of contemporary astronomy
lowered to Calimanesti-Cozia,
bringing young sky lovers
for the fight of mind on stellar maps,
flowers of galaxy
dreaming to become stars.
And they tried to solve nocturnal tests
observed over the Olt River,
where a new Argo Navis gave them
the qualification.

Chroniclers’ Choir to the Romanian Olympic Team:

In the never-ending Universe of living galaxies,
synchronized with the time of the hourglass,
hardly studying theories,
all of you will receive the dimension of the divine fire.
Just like Ra above Terra,
you will know you are full of
belief, hope and desires
to work over rainbows
and to find other paths of stars.

“INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMY DAY” AND “GLOBAL STAR PARTY”
-by Alex Conu-

It was good because:
-Pure and simple,
people became glad with their eyes on oculars;
-I heard “wow” a lot;
-people asked us to return to the park some other time;
-many people asked themselves what happens above them;
-we didn’t need superior studies in mathematics and physics
to watch the beauty of the sky.

“NEVERMORE” RAVEN
AND “FOREVER” SKY
-by Boris Marian (Mehr)-

In a park I saw a raven.
Was him the raven of Edgar Allen Poe
or was him a raven of anybody?

I respectfully saluted him,
but he flew without any answer.

Then my girlfriend said to me:
“Forever.”

I believe in the force of destiny,
but the raven does not care of destiny.

Sometimes people are nervous
while ravens believe in their future.

It was a clear evening
with proud heavenly bodies .

My girlfriend whispered to me:

“Forever, forever.”

During the nighttime
I began to photograph airplanes with stars and…

…a meteor briefly visited us!
