SARM’S PERSEID EVENT: PHOTO-MEMORIES
(15 EDITIONS, LEGENDARY PLACES)

In 1993
Valentin Grigore founded the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy-SARM
and also (in order to apply his concept, astronomy-culture-art-education-society)
the original annual astronomical event “Perseids” (“Perseide” in Romanian),
which has always contained two parts:

-1. A central camp of 10-15 days:
(-between 1993 and 1999 on the Voievodes Hill and in the town of Targoviste,
Dambovita County, Wallachia Province;
-in 2000 an exceptional meeting at the “Admiral Vasile Urseanu”
Bucharest Municipal Observatory;
-between 2001 and 2003 in Corbasca, Bacau County, Moldavia Province;
-in 2004 in Darmanesti, Bacau County, Moldavia Province;
-in 2005 and 2006 in Crasna-Sita Buzaului, Covasna County, Transylvania Province,
-in 2007 in Sancrai, Covasna County, Transylvania Province),
which has traditionally included
astronomical summer schools, contests for youth, colloquiums and workshops,
sky observations, international exhibitions - of photographs, arts and publications -,
fairs of instruments, cultural excursions and debates,
and since 1996 a unique Cosmopoetry Festival -
founded by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe).

-2. Expeditions all over Romania (especially in the Carpathian Mountains)
for studying the Perseid meteor shower maximum.

This photo-essay (including images - by Romanian sky lovers -
chosen for their sentimental value)
does not intend to represent a profound description
of SARM’s “Perseids” Event
(a national event which over time has attracted
foreign participants come from 4 continents),
but to remember some of the places enriched by its astronomical caravan.

days and nights with sweet lights,
us and the sky,
human wings for stellar flights.
