Meteor Haiku, 1999
In 1999, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and other Japanese institutions initiated the international campaign of Leonid 1999 Observation Project by High School Students All Over the World. The Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy-SARM contributed to this project through the mini-anthology below (realized and translated from the Romanian by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe), which was initially published in a Japanese web site.

THE GREETINGS OF THE ROMANIAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (MEMBERS OF THE SARM) TO THE JAPANESE PROJECT LEONIDS 99 THROUGH A MINI-ANTHOLOGY OF METEOR HAIKU IN THE EUROPEAN SPIRIT

Poems in the Haiku form:

A hurried meteor-
a whisper of a comet
between the sky and man.
-Paul Boboc (Theoretical Highschool of Roman)-

*

A living light
coming down among people
short awakening
-Ovidiu Cioroianu (Pedagogic Highschool of Bacau)-

*

Glow worms of the sky
hallowed with tears
the sacred Earth.
-Mariana Zarnescu (Mihai Eminescu Highschool of Barlad)-

*

Like a meteor frisking
in the sky, the man too,
an ephemeral fireball.
-Adrian Sima (Constantin Carabella Highschool of Targoviste)-

*

Tears of the Universe
are cried from a gap
to another one.
-Catalina Mitrut (Pedagogic Highschool of Bacau)-

*

The white meteor
is running horror-stricken
of Canes Venatici.
-Anca Buhus (Mihai Eminescu Highschool of Barlad)-

*

A small meteor
traverses hurried the sky-
astral traveller.
-Tina Visarian (Ienachita Vacarescu Highschool of Targoviste)-

*

Thoughts fall from the Lion
as like stars circling
over houses.
-Emanuela Ignatoiu-Sora (Nicolae Titulescu Highschool of Pucioasa)-

*

And finally, the instructor's greetings to Leonids 99 Project:

Fragments of fire
from the roar of Leo,
terror in the sky.
-Andrei Dorian Gheorghe (director of SARM Cosmopoetry Festival)-

*

Clear skies and the best wishes,
-Valentin Grigore (SARM president) and Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-
