In 1997
Dan Mitrut created a revolution at SARM’s Cosmopoetry Festival,
combining his astropoems with his photos, drawings, sculptures and songs,
and being considered
the founder of astrofolk music
and the astro-photo-poet of the XXth century
in Romania.

In 1998 he sang the Ballad of Greuceanul,
a song about a Romanian mythological hero
who defeated the dragon
that had stolen the Sun and had left the world in darkness.

In 1999 Dan Mitrut sang again that song in Targoviste
before the total solar eclipse of that year.

1

A smoky night
spreads over the world.
Without the Sun,
the solar system is a crazy monster.

Chorus:

“The armour stays proud on my chest,
and I’m going to save the Sun.”

2

A rumour comes from Lacerta
that the Sun is alive,
nailed in comets
by the desert dragon.

Chorus:

“The armour stays proud on my chest,
and I’m going to save the Sun.”

3

I have a shadow on my sword,
on this hidden road.
My luminous star
is enough for me.

Chorus:

“The armour stays proud on my chest,
and I’m going to save the Sun.”

Epilogue:

The orchard is in bloom,
and the Moon is a dream.
Like sunrise,
there isn’t any paradise.

ROMANIAN ORIGINAL VERSION OF THE ASTROFOLK SONG

BALADA LUI GREUCEANUL

1

Peste lume se-asterne
o noapte de fum.
Fara Soare, sistemul
e-un monstru nebun.

Refren:

“Mandru-mi stau pe piept zalele
si-am plecat s-aduc Soarele!”

2

Vine-un zvon din Lacerta
ca Soarele-i viu,
tintuit in comete
de zmeul pustiu.

Refren:

“Mandru-mi stau pe piept zalele
si-am plecat s-aduc Soarele!”

3

Am o umbra pe palos,
in drumul ascuns.
Luminosul meu astru
imi este de-ajuns.

Refren:

“Mandru-mi stau pe piept zalele
si-am plecat s-aduc Soarele!”

Epilog:

Inflorita-i livada
si Luna de vis.
Ca lumina de Soare
nu-i alt paradis.
