ON THE SAME PLANET

THE BEAST AT VESPERS
for Jean Cocteau
-by Bruce Boston (U.S.A.)-

The daisies turn blue at dusk.

The moon is the rib of Adam,
and the night,
a woman grown around it.

The carcass of a fawn
bloodies the garden path.

ASCENSION
-by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe-

I wish to go to the Moon,
and I’d like to use Argo Navis,
but I’m afraid
I would remain in the sky
as a constellation.

“I’m sorry for you,” Jason says,
“the heroes from my ship
prefer stellar destinies.”

“Try my ark,” Noah smiles,
“it is specialized
in small things.”
