LIVE TOURNAMENT WITH ZIGMUND TAUBERG

On April 30, 2021
an unforgettable tournament with
a former Romanian national astropoetry laureate,
teacher of mathematics, popularizer of astronomy,
leader of an elite cultural circle in Bucharest,
for which I chose a picture taken on April 12.
His astropoem bellow
catches excellently the spirit of Global Astronomy Month,
so I decided to publish it in two variants:
the Romanian original (and rhymed) version and my English translation.
He is the longest-lived astropoet in the world.
Age: 94!

LUNA MONDIALĂ A ASTRONOMIEI

GLOBAL ASTRONOMY MONTH
By Zigmund Tauberg

April is a month that is
Considered a fairytale month,
Dizzying middle of spring,
A wonderful air that prepares
Its great enchantment for the evening,
When the stars give the living light
Adorning the vault during the night.
Then by day the light grows
And the sun warms the atmosphere
With rays that sustain life on Earth.

But you wonder, why only a month?
Science can tell us that
The stars were born
Long before humans appeared,
So we can answer clearly:
Global Astronomy Month is just
A symbol, an event
That must be properly honored
As a great achievement.

HYPERIONS
(Bucharest, April 21, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

One day, after I saw
our star shortly after sunrise and shortly before sunset,
I found a building on which it was written “Hyperion”
(“the high one” in old Greek).

Then Hyperion the Sun
withdrew to make space
for Hyperion the Moon.

LIVE TOURNAMENT WITH VICTOR CHIFELEA

On April 29, 2021
I met near the Palace of Parliament and the Rocket Building
a dear friend of mine since 1987
(participant in SARM’s Cosmopoetry Festival since the first edition in 1996,
where he received many awards),
an engineer who prefers fantasy astropoetry,
for a tournament which I completed with three pictures
taken in March 23, April 5 and April 12.

SIRIUS
By Victor Chifelea

His purpose can be misleading,
his appearance is the same,
he can quickly turn hope
into cruel despair

The mad dog of infinite expanses,
escaped from the chains of judgment,
sends deceptive lights
which determine our destiny from light years

And we on earth look humbly at the sky,
with teary eyes from hard work
and the heart full of hope,
to the inexorable glimmer of our becoming.

I’m not worried - you live like

BUCHAREST, APRIL 22, 2021
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

It’s so good to live a day with
morning solar reflections,
blossoms,
a sunset watched by the Moon
and a new astral triangle
honoring Global Astronomy Month 2021:
the Moon, Regulus
and a leaf!

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH DAN MITRUT

The second tournament with a teacher,
former vice-president of SARM,
multiple national laureate for astropoetry and astronomical arts,
founder of astro-folk music in Romania…

I DON’T WANT A TICKET TO MARS
By Dan Mitrut

What other stories could Orion tell?
There is no one in the house of the constellations,
all things would turn their faces
to immortality

To live there without a Pole Star
and without the wheat field from which
the Pleiades rise…

Without the crickets that make the stars blink...

No, I don't want to leave.

On earth you can still hide
behind the icon of a twilight.

Goodbye, ex-earthlings,
lost in the red rust of the heart.

SHORT HALTS
(Bucharest, April 24, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

The Sun fighting the clouds,
short halts in the past and in the future,
the sun god Apollo expressly for us
and his futile attempts to crown himself
with a solar halo…

GROWTH
(Bucharest, April 24, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

An interesting dusk
and (so I would say)
the Moon
bigger than yesterday.

132

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH ADRIAN SIMA

The second tournament with he physicist-priest, teacher and amateur astronomer,
former national youth laureate for astropoetry and astronomy…

GRAVITY
By Adrian Sima

Flowers are not the ones that will tell the truth about light -
their roots pierce the darkness.
The light is not the one that will tell the truth about sleep -
the rest weaves behind the eyelids like a ball of rays
around a black hole.
Sleep is not the one that will tell the truth about dreams -
these are of birds caught in flight
by the colored ropes of gravity.
And not just these things will bring us together. . .
Not the one that is directly proportional to the mass product
and inversely proportional to the square of the distance ...
Not gravity, no!

His wing hummed with the hourglass rustle.

WITH THE MOON SHORTLY BEFORE THE NIGHT QUARANTINE
(Bucharest, April 25, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Noon Sun between blocks and trees,
moonrise one hour before the night quarantine,
the cross of a park with
children learning to dance,
a dog walking its servant,
a little girl throwing a celestial sphere,
an ET,
the Moon looking for the most comfortable position…
and suddenly I felt myself suspended between
the lowering Sun
and the high Moon.

WITH THE MOON SHORTLY AFTER THE NIGHT QUARANTINE
(Bucharest, April 25, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Running to my block
just for the night quarantine.
Down, sunset. Up, Moon.

135

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH ION(UT) MORARU

The third tournament with the oldest astro-art-poet
active in the SARM movement of astropoetry and cosmopoetry…

THE NORTH STAR
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Every man should have
a Polaris as reference
point for his deeds

POLARIS
Astro-art-poem by Ion(ut) Moraru

The North Star guides the steps of travelers,
shows the poets the way in verse
and fills those who see life in vain with confidence.

Thus Vikings led their ships to new lands
and the winds in the sails are the helium ions that cover the star.

Now astronomers are turning ships into telescopes:
Polaris’ mass seems twice as small as that of the Sun,
its age seems ten times smaller
and its category is a Cepheid,
every four days it swells, shines and then decreases,
and the more we observe it,
the less we understand it.

136

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH DOMINIC DIAMANT

The third tournament with a former national astropoetry laureate (age 86)…

LIMITS
By Dominic Diamant

How do I exceed my limits?
Letting my spirit fly
free and unrestricted
like a blinding ray
rippling into infinity.

COSMOS IN HEAVEN AND EARTH
(Bucharest, April 4-22, 2021)
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

A store of electronic comets,
two visions of the Sky Tower,
a solar wheel in the Tei Park,
the Sun itself,
a rocket flying to the Moon in the Youth Park,
Capella with Menkalinan
and many blossoms as elements of connection
between earth and heaven.

137

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH TIT TIHON

The last tournament with a former national astropoetry laureate (now in Canada),
who presents a precious memory from Dimitrie Olenici’s youth camps
around his private observatory, dedicated to
the Perseid meteor shower and astronomy…

MELANCHOLY
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

There is no doubt - a
private observatory
is also a tale

REMEBERING “PERSEID NIGHTS” IN HORODNIC
Astro-photo-poem by Tit Tihon

When the morning dew rains in August
Perseids sing in meteor lyrics
The moon sets when the little astronomers come
To look at the sky seated in the shape of a cross

I saw one, said the happy little boy,
Being enchanted by the spectacular rain of stars
The first in his existence on the third planet
Somewhere in Horodnic, near the master teacher

I also counted a few meteors in a few seconds,
Other children counted many more
Perseids and Delta Aquariids
They also received a cup as a reward from
The magnificent little private observatory
