A PERSONAL STAR NIGHT
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Capella (with Menkalinan),
Pollux and Castor,
Procyon (with Gomeisa),
Mars between Aldebaran and Elnath,
great Sirius,
the upper stars of Orion,
Arcturus (with Izar)…

Scared of the new possible restrictions
because of the 3rd wave of the pandemic,
on April 5, 2021
I ran to the Children’s World Park and its colored lights
to celebrate my own Star Night before the nocturnal quarantine.

If it’s to be electricity,
Then let’s be part of astronomy!

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH VALENTIN GRIGORE

Life becomes more interesting when a nova furrows the sky
beyond the blossoms…

CIRCUMPOLAR
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Cassiopeia:
“A nova should bring me more
love from Cepheus.”

V1405 CAS
Astro-photo-poem by Valentin Grigore

Spring on the branches
and on the vault of the sky,
arms of spring among the stars,
petals of blossoms and stars
in Global Astronomy Month 2021.

And on the night of April 5-6,
Nova Cassiopeiae 2021!

(I slipped out of town amid travel bans
and made captures with Cannon 6D,
using the same camera lens of 135mm
like the discoverer.
Magnitude: around 7.6-7.8,
but I caught it!)

LIVE TOURNAMENT WITH DOMINIC FIAMANT

A political prisoner under the communist regime,
then a Romanian national astropoetry laureate and author of 30 books.
He invited me in his magic garden on the Dej Street,
which he called… Dejhagascar,
for a tournament dedicated to the most beautiful constellation.
I was there on April 30, 2021
and used for this tournament a picture which I took on March 14, 2021.
Since this astropoem of Dominic Diamant (age 86) was written in classical style
and is a top dedication to Orion,
I chose to publish it in two variants:
the Romanian original version and my English translation.

ORION
De Dominic Diamant

Pe drumul meu galactico-stelar
De boli şi pandemii nu am habar
De-atâtea stele mândre însoţit
C-un brâu de aur cum n-aţi pomenit

Şi-o suliţă cum nici că aţi visat
Întreaga veşnicie o străbat
Şi taur după taur eu răpun
Ca vânător fantastic şi imun

Iar Rigel, Betelgeusa nu au spor
Tot aspirând cu ele să mă-nsor
Atâta vreme cât, îndrăgostit
De-atâtea stele, eu sunt fericit

ORION
By Dominic Diamant

On my galactic-stellar road
I have no idea about diseases and pandemics
I am accompanied by so many proud stars
And have a wonderful golden belt

And a marvellous spear…
I go through all eternity
As a fantastic and immune hunter
I bring down beast after beast

In vain Rigel and Betelgeuse guess
I could marry them
Because, in love with so many stars,
I live a real happiness

TO THE HUNTER
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Orion, stop hunting!
Just take care of your stars and
superb nebulae!

Surprising faces
in predictable appearances
the Moon again

MORNING MOON
Astro-photo-poem by Valentin Grigore

The mornings are beautiful
for those who get up early or haven't gone to bed yet.

…A house decorated with stars
for Global Astronomy Month 2021.

…Meeting in the morning sky:
Moon, Saturn, Jupiter
in the Chindia Park, Targoviste.

…The moon rising in the morning,
age 24 days, illumination 32%.

The light comes from heaven!
Especially for the soul!

A MORNING WITH MANY HEAVENLY BODIES
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

On April 6, 2021
I caught fragments of
the Eagle (Altair with Tarazed),
Ophiucus and Hercules (Ras-Alhague and Ras-Algethi,
two alphas so close to each other)
and the Scorpion (Antares with a few star friends)
from my balcony.

The Moon was also fine,
so after 5:00 (the end of the night quarantine)
I went to the Children’s World Park
to see her better
and to enjoy the rise of Jupiter.

The morning ended with the Sun,
who rose right from the park
to flood my world
with his beneficial light.

TRANSITION TO GAM 2021
Astro-photo-poem by Cosmin Sorin Miclos

After I caught
a blossom of Full Moon,
I looked for vitamin D
in the Carpathian Mountains…

BUCHAREST, APRIL 6, 2021
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

At sunrise and sunset,
I saw the Sun so frustrated that
he couldn’t go on the Youth Boulevard
due to traffic congestion.

So frustrated that he started dancing
on the hoods of cars.

68

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH IULIAN OLARU

The second tournament with a multiple Romanian national astrohaiku laureate…

If you are not a
cosmic lover, at least try
some cosmic flowers

TOURNAMENT WITH GEORGE TANASE

Considered a “a poet of astrophotography”,
George Tanase (who lives in Targoviste) could not miss this project…

STATE OF SPIRIT
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Wake up, my friend,
enjoy the generous wonders
lowered among us

TRANSITION

BUCHAREST, APRIL 7, 2021
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Blossoms, flowers and clouds
stunned me so much
that I thought I saw the Sun’s transformation
into a supernova.

71

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH CĂTĂLIN LIȚĂ

The newcomer in Romanian astrophotography (who lives in Targoviste)
and his sensible message from Dambovita County…

AMAZEMENT
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

It is good when more people
are ready to make
sky analyses

IRREGULAR MEMORIES ON THE TRANSITION TO GAM 2021
Astro-photo-poem by Cătălin Liță

1. Beginning of March, a Full Moon evening.
Two kids were born next to the city.

2. Today I photographed the closest star to Earth,
our everyday sun with a new spot.
Our planet would be twice the diameter
if it were in place of the sunspot.
(March 13)

3. I recently photographed two galaxies dear to me.
M82 (Cigar) is a galaxy with intense activity creating new stars.
M81 (Bode) is a typical example of a spiral galaxy.
(March)

4. This week, the planet Mars transited the sky
through the Pleiades, the famous open star cluster,
creating a rare conjunction…
(March)

5. Winter landscape with specific sky
to include as much as possible of this nightly show
stolen from us by light pollution of cities.
On the left you can see a segment of our galaxy
with multiple nebulae unfolding diagonally.
In the center, the great Orion dominating the sky.
In the upper right, a conjunction:
the planet Mars and the Pleiades star cluster.
(March)

6. The Doicesti power station and the Bucegi Mountains
under the stars.
Fireworks were an unexpected bonus during the show.
(April 2)

7. Only our footsteps through the fresh snow
disturbed the peace of the frozen forest
while the branches of bare trees
embraced infinity.
There, hidden from our eyes,
a few nebulae and clusters of stars floated quietly.
(March 21)

QUESTION
(Bucharest, April 8, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Once I wondered
how the Sun feels if he is compared
with other stars.

“I know,” he said, “there are
bigger, brighter or finer stars,
but I must take care of Earth
and other interesting heavenly bodies.”

73

EVENING TWILIGHT
(Bucharest, April 8, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Above old and new
buildings - just the Sun’s pigment,
processions of clouds

74

NEIGHBORHOOD ASTRONOMY DURING GAM 2021
(Bucharest, April 8, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Between Sirius and Arcturus,
in the neighborhood of my youth,
I met old and new friends
and explained them the position of the April stars.

A Sky-Earth cooperation
between Sirius and Arcturus.

75

A MORNING WITH THREE RISES
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

In 1714 the Romanian ruler Constantin Brancoveanu
was kindly invited with his sons to Istanbul by the Ottoman sultan,
who beheaded them because he didn’t want to change his religion
(from Christian to Islamic).

In memory of her father and brothers,
Domnita Balasa made a wonderful church in Bucharest,
and on April 9, 2021, from the apartment of my departed parents,
I fixed my view to the spires of that religious building.

Then I caught the rise of Jupiter
(so small in the beginning, the planet suddenly became big
like a miniature nova),
the rise of the old Moon
(age 28 days - an almost invisible sickle
surrounded by fire)
and the rise of the Sun
(a bloody sunset, remembering Brancoveanu’s sacrifice).

Finally I went to the church,
where the magnolia blossoms and the Sun
continued the commemoration.

76

78

SPRING PERFUME
(Bucharest, April 9-10, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

The spring perfume was very strong that night,
attracting even the Sky Lion.

The next morning it gave birth
to an astronomical observatory
among the blossoms.

79

EMAIL TOURNAMENT WITH DAN MITRUT

The founder of astrofolk music in Romania,
former multiple national laureate for astropoetry and astroarts,
and even former vice-president of SARM,
came to this project with a fascinating memory
from the dark year 2020…

REMEMBERING COMET NEO-WISE
By Dan Mitrut

What’s coming?
What’s going on?
What’s left?
No comet lets you be
a whole man
after seeing
with your own eyes
the beginnings of the Cosmos
running over the Sun.

No comet leaves you
a whole man.

Does anyone remember
who I am?

LIKE A COMET
(Bucharest, April 13, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Sun like a warm
comet surrounded by a halo
like a warm mane

SECRET IRIGATION
(Bucharest, April 10, 2021)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

It seemed like Beta Aquarii
had found a secret way to irrigate
the Japanese cherry trees in the Children’s World Park.

Then their blossoms became
clusters of earthly stars.
